KoleI just finished the standard game play for Plants Vs Zombies, it was a lot of fun, but only took me 8 hours of game play. Anyway, it is a fun game and worth the $9.99 on Steam.

Plants Vs Zombies is a game seeded with sun filled days and shroomed up nights. Starting out in the vastness of a front lawn, you are tasked with defending your brains using nothing more than killer plants and kick ass lawn mowers. Then you must defend your back yard, even zombies love it from behind. The pool presents an interesting challenge as you struggle to plant Lilly pads and plants to defend it. The game moves to every angle of defense and ends fighting on your roof. The roof requires every plant to be in a pot and makes the Lilly pads look like a day at the pond, finally you battle the evil Dr. Zomboss. Dr. Zomboss only takes damage when you can see the head of his evil robot creation, and at that point he is getting ready to unleash a hellish fireball or an ice ball that would freeze the nuts off an Eskimo. It doesn’t take long to realize that a Jalapeno destroys the ice balls and an Ice-Shroom freezes out the fire balls. Eventually Dr. Zomboss falls to your brutal attacks of peas, watermelon and the like and you are safe from zombie brain eaters. After a break-away pop number you are free to play mini-games, survival modes and work on your Zen Garden.

Overall PvZ takes 8 out of 10 in my Tower Defense book. I felt the game was good and full of tongue and cheek, but overall it was a short game. I would have loved a sewer attack level or a night roof thrill, but after 5 levels with 10 rounds each, you are free from Zombie attack. You are free to replay the game, Crazy Dave will even pick three plants for you, but it is not “new”. I have to say usually this is a deal breaker for me with a game, if I’m done in less than 24 hours, it’s not worth recommending, but this game is full of mini-games that take anywhere from 5 minutes a round to unending assaults, so the value of a quick match before you walk out the door, to an all night zombie fest is available. I finally have to give props to the graphics, perfectly simplistic, I played about half of this game on my Aspire One Netbook, and the graphics were great with no lags, stops or drops.
