Okay guys, so it’s been a while. Things have finally calmed down a bit and I can get back to working on this site once in a while. So, first things first. It was a while ago, but I did mention trying Aion, Champions Online and Star Trek Online. I have tried all three and I’ll write quick verdicts on all three in a sec. Also, a review of Mass Effect 2. Managed to get my hands on it for a while. You’re jealous, I know. List form is the name of the game for these mini reviews… - Champions Online: Not great. Solid idea, but poor execution. It was cool to have the transport modes (like flying and speed and such) so early, but the game play itself got stale very quickly. Rush in, punch, punch, kick, power punch, repeat. Or, shoot, shoot shoot shoot, shoot shoot, other shot. You get the idea. I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless you really liked City of Heroes.
- Aion: I see the merit. I really do. Great concept, but not my style. I may have come into it expecting a little more than yet another WoW clone. Cuz that’s basically what it is. Just… prettier. I’ll give them that. Aion is awfully pretty. Too much anime style for my tastes however.
- Star Trek Online: Playing the Open Beta. It’s pretty good so far, but it kinda feels like the ground-based stuff was an afterthought. The space fighting is very Star Trek. The ground fighting feel like a dumbed down third person tactical shooter. I’m sure they’re planning on making it feel more solid, but for now, ground combat is not the fun part for me. I would definitely recommend this for all Star Trek fans and space combat aficionados.
On to Mass Effect 2. Link to the review here. I hope to be able to update more often from here on out. No promises though. All these things I cannot do without… /Remus
